The Cambridge Prizes 2024

We have 10 free submissions per category for those for whom the entry fee would otherwise be prohibitive. Please contact us for more details.

The Cambridge Short Story Prize (open) 

  • Submission Period: 1st April – 15th June 2024
  • Who can enter: Anyone. The competition is open internationally.
  • Word Length: 2500
  • Entry Fees: £9.00
  • Subsidised Entries: We offer 10 free submissions.
  • Prizes: £1000 (1st)  £300 (2nd)  £200 (3rd) and all remaining shortlisted will be awarded £50.
  • Judge: EIC Rupert Dastur
  • Other Details: All shortlisted and winning writers will be published online.

The Cambridge Flash Fiction Prize (open)

  • Submission Period: 1st April – 15th June 2024
  • Who can enter: Anyone. The competition is open internationally.
  • Word Length: 400
  • Entry Fees: £9.00
  • Subsidised Entries: We offer 10 free submissions.
  • Prizes: £1000 (1st)  £300 (2nd)  £200 (3rd) and all remaining shortlisted will be awarded £50.
  • Judge: EIC Rupert Dastur
  • Other Details: All shortlisted and winning writers will be published online.

Entry fees cover the prizes and running costs of TSS. This year, our primary expense will be moving to a new host & updating our website with a new theme, as the current one is now no longer being supported / updated by the developer.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Short Stories must be in English and must not exceed 2500 words in length, excluding title. There is no minimum word count. Flash Fiction must not exceed 400 words, excluding the title and there is no minimum word count.
  2. Entries should be 12 pt, a regular font, and at least 1.5 spaced.
  3. Please put the title and word count on the first page. Please number the pages.
  4. No author identification should be included on the entry. Work is judged anonymously.
  5. Authors may submit more than one Short Story or Flash Fiction, but each submission must be accompanied by a submission fee.
  6. Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but please let us know if your work is accepted elsewhere.
  7. Entries must not have been previously published online or in print, this includes personal blogs or social media accounts.
  8. Please submit as a DOC or DOCX. No PDFs please.
  9. IMPORTANT: Please remove punctuation from file names (especially apostrophes) as this can cause the submission to glitch.
  10. Other than the above request, please ensure the file name matches the title of your work. Please don’t add words like ‘final ‘ or ‘TSS’ to the file name as this means more admin time is taken up.
  11. Please note that refunds cannot be given and we ask all writers to really check they are subbing the correct draft of their work.
  12. Please sign up to the newsletter to keep up to date with announcements and results. Unfortunately we don’t have resources to email all entrants individually, although we will contact shortlisted writers.
  13. TSS Publishing will ask for First Electronic Rights from all shortlisted and winning writers. Print rights will remain with the authors and electronic rights return to authors following publication on this website.
  14. If your work is accepted elsewhere, please contact us as soon as possible.
